Leg the Artist the original plant lady artist

Origin Story

I'm originally from The Netherlands, but I grew up in Yemen, Costa Rica, and South Africa. I'm currently based in Kosovo, and teaching myself to be a graphic designer so I can do even more creative work. I've always wanted to be an artist, and I've taught myself everything from the start.

I'm also formally trained in Psychology, with a master’s in Pedagogical Sciences. I combine Psychology with art in my private art lessons, where I tackle topics I've struggled with like perfectionism and the inner critic by painting them into life and making them more tangible and separate from the self that’s observing.

The Art

My art is best described as “plant lady art”. I love permaculture, sustainability and tiny house living, and I love incorporating what I learn about how to live in tune with nature in my art. Plants and nature are symbolic of self- growth for me. And I want my art to make an impact and inspire others to grow and be creative too.

My artwork often looks quite ethereal and psychedelic, dreamy and surreal. I draw (excuse the pun) a lot of inspiration from my dream life, as well as my waking life as a self-proclaimed plant addict. I often have dreams about water and walking or flying over vast landscapes, often featuring animals or being chased. I like to paint from these symbols from nature that my dreams use, and slowly uncover their meaning. I think everyone's subconscious uses their own personal and sometimes more universal language of symbols that we can each uncover. We can all learn from each other, as mirrors to deepen our understanding of ourselves.

My favourite medium is the underrated ballpoint pen you probably have on your desk. I like mediums that are more permanent, as everything else in my life is constantly changing. Also, when I make mistakes with a more permanent medium it forces me to think outside of the box and come up with creative solutions instead of erasing.

I don't  limit myself to my favourite medium though. I like to push the boundaries and paint on canvas, draw on ukuleles, paint on walls and windows with Posca pens, spray paint my bicycle, and do sculpture work with clay and rock. I've also been handpoke tattooing since 2017.
