Original Art Inspired By Nature

I originally made this mixed media plant inspired artwork in Australia, using a leaves of native plants I found on my walks in the forests. I gathered the leaves, covered it with water colour paint, and printed it onto an A3 sheet of archival paper. This one was made with a mulberry leaf.

Plant inspired art

Through this process of using art to connect with nature while I travel, I learned about the natural plant medicines of my surroundings.

Mulberry plant medicine

Mulberry leaves are used in traditional Chinese medicine to strengthen the liver and eyes. I used an actual mulberry leaf that I painted with aquarel to print it onto this artwork.

Plant symbolism & the meaning in my art

The piece is a refelection of how we can reconnect with our true deep knowing nature when we stop living in our heads, disembodied from our senses. As soon as we land in our bodies again  we realise that we’re already alright (usually, unless you notice you’re missing a limb that you weren’t before, then perhaps  have a professional take a look at it).

It reconnects us to all living things again, and places us back in our power to make as informed a decision as possible, based on as much presence to all the incoming sensory information as possible.

In traditional Chinese medicine the liver is responsible for the smooth running of emotions and qi energy through the body.  And eyes are windows to the soul, as the yé old saying goes.

So it’s not strange that when you open your eyes to observe what’s coming in through all the senses of your body, you can much more smoothly navigate the rough seas of ups and downs that each life inherently carries with it.

Remember to land in your body, and do the best you can with what you can control.
